Sustainable Agriculture Training

a) The objective of this training to review the activities related to vermin compost. Nine farmers and staff members from the partners had participated.

Sustainable Agriculture training was held picking on the training that was held in Haridwar from the 2nd to 5th of March 2009. Saksham India Trust reviewed the activities of the TOT previously held related to vermin compost with the nine farmers and staff member of the partners in the field. During this training emphasis on the dangers caused to soil by use of excessive chemical fertilizers were highlighted.

This training emphasised on sustainable agriculture through organic framing practices providing techniques those could be easily adopted by the farming communities.

b) Similarly, a two days training from on Sustainable Agriculture was conducted at Parsuram Ka Vishramgrah Jamtara, Jharkhand on 13th to 20th November 2009 in which the current trends emerging in Sustainable agriculture was discussed. This programme was done to review and follow up of a Training on Sustainable Agriculture and Organic Farming for Pahal Network Partners that was done earlier.

This follow up training also included the following topics - Disadvantages of Chemical farming, Methods of organic farming and water and soil conservation

c) A follow training on Sustainable/Organic Farming of Pahal Network up was conducted from 19th to 26th February, 2010 by SIT’s consultant. This was an eight days training in which, two days for each organization was provided.Visit to all four PAHAL network partners as per fix schedule i.e. one day field visit and one day for feedback, discussion, providing technical inputs on required issues, developing strategies & action plan were done. The participants to this training consisted of farmers and project staff of the concerned partner.

Emphasis was made by the consultant on the following issues for developing in-depth knowledge of the farmers and project staffs were:

  • Hybrid and GM Seeds
  • Proper method to prepare Farm Yard Manure (Traditional composting)
  • Crop diversification
  • Use of organic insecticides
